Member Spotlight: Alexander Adler
What prompted you to join Southside Wellness Coalition?
Seeing what services are providing the region, providing help where needed to see the community recover, de-stigmatize, and support one another.
What do you consider to be one of Southside’s biggest challenges?
The expansive footprint to be covered – making sure all services are understood and easily accessible for those needing them. Covering a large area can be hard with a group of volunteers, even though we’re dedicated it can sometimes be hard to be in multiple places at once!
What do you consider to be one of Southside’s biggest strengths?
Diversity of professions and caring people. Everyone in the coalition is dedicated to serving and seeing the community get help!
If you are employed outside your home, what kind of work do you do?
I am the Virginia Partnership Development Manager for Groups Recover Together – an outpatient service that provides in-person and tele-health group therapy mixed with Medication Assisted Treatment. I connect our services with the likes of Department of Corrections, hospitals, government agencies, other like treatment places, and communities.
What other work or activity takes up your time outside work?
I have 2 little kids that take up majority of my time outside of work, whether it’s teaching them something new, playing in the backyard or teaching them to root for Boston sports we’re always busy!
What is a fun fact about you that not many people know?
I do some small hobby woodworking when I have the extra – extra time!
What is something you’ve always wanted to do?
See the 7 wonders of the world!
What is your favorite quote?
“A failure is not always a mistake. It may simply be the best one can do under the circumstances. The real mistake is to stop trying.” –B.F. Skinner
