Kinship Care Connects: Tools and Support for Southside Families

Free virtual learning sessions for caregivers

What is kinship care?

While you might not have heard the term "kinship care," it's not a new concept. In fact, families have always engaged in kinship care when, for whatever reason, birth parents are unable to care for their children for a period of time.

Overwhelmingly, kinship care falls to grandparents. According to census data, more than 2.4 million grandparents are primary caregivers for grandchildren under 18. In many areas of the country, the opioid epidemic is the primary driver of growth in kinship care.

Kinship Care Connects will give caregivers the opportunity to learn about skills and resources that will help them navigate the challenges and joys of kinship care.

Everyone is welcome — you do not have to be a caregiver to participate.

What is THE kinship care GROUP?

We are a grass-roots care group made of individuals who are raising their grandchildren or the children of other kin due to unforeseen circumstances. Once a month, we meet to share resources, plan events, and show support for each other. We welcome all local citizens to join us and share their knowledge.
